Dr. Alicia is here to teach people what signs and symptoms may mean for them so they can be their own health advocate. Health and happiness are more than a clean diet and exercise. Let Dr. Alicia guide your body, mind, and soul to optimum health!
Naturopathic medicine is more than another field of study; it is a philosophy of life. Emphasis is placed on disease prevention and treating the whole person: mental, emotional, physical and spiritual. Naturopathic doctors encourage and educate individuals to take an active role in their health. To see more about Naturopathic medical training and our medicine please see the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians website (AANP).
Naturopathic medicine is guided by 6 main principles which are dedicated to the innate ability of the body to heal and nature’s power in assisting with healing.
The Healing Power of Nature
Vis Medicatrix Naturae
Naturopathic physicians act to identify and remove obstacles keeping people sick, in order to facilitate the bodies inherent self-healing process. In order to bring someone to health, each individual's vital force, (the Vis/Chi/Qi or prana), must be nourished and supported for a person to heal.
First Do No Harm
Primum Non Nocere
This principle instructs a physician to start with the least invasive treatments, progressing to more invasive treatments such as pharmaceuticals or surgeries as needed to return the body back to health. The initial step starts with prevention of disease, supporting the Vis and correcting structural issues.
Treat the Cause
Underlying causes of illness must be identified and removed before complete recovery can occur. Naturopathic physicians seek to identify and remove the underlying causes of illness, rather than suppress the presenting symptoms. Symptom control is an essential part of maintaining quality of life but cannot return a person to a healthy state.
Treat the Whole Person
Naturopathic physicians treat individuals by taking into account each physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, social and other factors specific to each patient and their chief concerns. In my opinion, optimal health also includes spiritual health. Naturopathic physicians encourage individuals to pursue their personal spiritual development in an effort to establish a solid foundation for healing to take place however they feel called.
Doctor as Teacher
The original meaning of the word “doctor” is teacher. For naturopathic physicians, this means providing information based on clinical training to promote self-responsibility for ones own health. Naturopathic physicians acknowledge and value the therapeutic relationship between patient and doctor and work to meet people where they are in their healing journey.
All of the above principles lead patients to a place of Wellness...
Wellness follows the establishment and maintenance of optimum health and balance. Wellness is characterized by positive emotion, thought and action. Wellness is inherent in everyone, no matter what diseases are part of an individuals history.
My personal mission as your Naturopath is to guide you to your intuition so you can enjoy a life of health and happiness. I believe we all have inside us what we need to be our best self and often need gentle guidance and reminders on how to bring our goodness to fruition.
Who could benefit from Naturopathic medicine?
Naturopathic medicine thrives in preventative medicine as it focuses on the foundations of health (whole foods, body movement, sleep, safety, mental health etc.) as a way of disease prevention through lifestyle changes and daily positive health habits. By focusing on foundations of health many symptoms people suffer from ease up or disappear entirely. Treatment focuses on balancing the body through implementing stronger foundations of health with a focus on health and wellness rather than disease state. Naturopathy is effective in treating most health concerns both acute and chronic because of the focus on the person and how illnesses affect them as an individual.

If you listen to your body it will tell you exactly what it needs. My philosophy on bodywork is bringing the body into relaxation and allowing it to work out it's own kinks by bringing awareness to the areas needing attention. My form of bodywork includes techniques from Swedish massage, Craniosacral Therapy, Visceral Manipulation (working with the organs), Spinal manipulation (working on any spinal misalignment), and other techniques based on patients individual needs. I also make topical herbal products which can help with pain and inflammation.

Cupping therapy is an ancient form of alternative medicine in which a therapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. People get it for many purposes, including to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relaxation and well-being, and as a type of deep-tissue massage (info from WebMD.)

Infrared Sauna Detox support Treatment
The idea of the sauna is to help decrease stagnation throughout the body thus increasing the body’s natural detox pathways. Besides sweating, which people feel immediately, shortly after the treatment people often have increased urination due to the treatments effects on the entire body including the lymphatic system and the kidney’s. A 5-15-minute session in the sauna allows for tissue relaxation and dilation of vessels and increased flow. By increasing the body temperature, we increase sweating through the skin, a major organ of elimination. This treatment is indicated for a variety of reasons including general wellness, during acute illness such as cold, flu, congestion, headaches, body injuries, general aches and pains and many other things
